Smoothcomp Improves Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ADCC U.S. Open in Las Vegas

Question for you today… have you ever heard of Smoothcomp?

If not, I just had my first experience with them recently, so I’d like to share. Smoothcomp is a cloud-hosted tournament software that helps Brazilian Jiu Jitsu organizations (and I’m pretty sure others as well) manage events.

The company is comprised of a team that’s competed in and/or worked on big tournaments since way back in 2000, and more recently they finally decided to build their own platform, in a concerted effort to help other athletes, coaches, and organizers worldwide enjoy a much better tournament experience. It’s a much-needed and much-welcomed idea in my humble opinion, so I was glad to see it.

Once you participate in an event that Smoothcomp manages, they create a profile for you, which tracks your activity in all events run by Smoothcomp. In my case, that’s only one event, the ADCC U.S. Open (see image above), which took place in mid-August of this year.

I won my first match vs Antonio Reel 4-0, and then lost to Jair Morselli 0-2 in the 2nd. As you can see below, Smoothcomp notes both my skill level (3rd degree black belt) and my wins on the Billy Crafton Profile page.

What’s also nice is that they note both your declared Academies and Affiliations too. For the ADCC event, I noted the facility I train at when spending time in Puerto Rico, Dalua BJJ/Combat 360.  They even list the high-level affiliation tied to each academy, which in the case of Dalua is A-Force BJJ.

I think it’s great that Smoothcomp tries to tie together as much of the community as possible. They also assign points for rankings, in any sector you qualify. In my case, thanks to my victory, scoring a Bronze in the tournament, I was awarded one point in US – Men – Advanced – Overall, US – Men – Advanced – Master 45+, and US – Top Men Rankings, all for the season of 2023-2024. If you click on the Master 45+ link above, you’ll see the full list of competitors that are ranked, of which I’m even included in, despite only attending the one tournament. It’s a pretty cool setup.

Kudos to the Smoothcomp team for creating this great event platform. I look forward to seeing how it evolves moving forward, along with the Brailian Jiu Jitsu competitions themselves (which we all know and love)!
